OTTAWA, April 17, 2019 – Following ratification meetings held yesterday, Unifor Local 414 members supported a tentative agreement between Rexall Drug Stores with a 97% ratification vote.
“We dramatically improved the union representation in the Stores,” said Gord Currie, President, Unifor Local 414. “We made major gains in all areas including return to work, discharge and discipline, contracting-out, and tech change language. We were also able to ensure that the scheduling of hours for part-time workers would be based on seniority with the most senior members getting up to 28 hours, and then going down the seniority list from there.”
Bargaining highlights include:
1. Increase in full-time jobs. Twenty-five (25) new positions created.
2. Temporary full-time jobs will be posted after three (3) months of known absence and will include Health and Welfare Benefits.
a) All classifications now have a minimum wage plus, for all steps in the grid, with a minimum of 2 percent on top of that.
b) Pharmacy assistants get minimum wage plus $4.50/hour over the agreement.
c) Cosmetics get $0.80/hour each year plus minimum wage increases.
d) $250 dollar signing bonus for full-time workers.
e) $125 dollar signing bonus for part-time workers.
“It was a tremendous victory in terms of language, full-time jobs and wages and benefits with increases between 2-10 percent,” says Betty Campbell, Unit Chair.
The contract will affect 425 workers at 27 stores located across the Greater Ottawa area and the contract is a 3-year deal that expires June of 2022.
